Harlands make a racket at School Games

The AEGON Schools Road to Eastbourne tournament marked its tenth Anniversary on Saturday 23 June 2012 as the finals of the competition took place at Eastbourne’s Devonshire Park. The finals made up Level 3 of the Sussex School Games for the county’s young tennis players.

The event, which features school years three and four and is open to schools across Sussex, was won by Harlands Primary School. Pupils from Westdene, Barcombe CE, Wallands, West Park, All Saints CE and Gossops Green also competed in the final having fought through early rounds to book their places on the grass courts.

Through the AEGON Schools Tennis programme, the Tennis Foundation and the LTA aim to introduce more children across the UK to tennis and develop the core skills to encourage them to continue playing.

Liz Squires, Tennis Development Manager for the Sussex said: “The final of the AEGON Schools programme is always a great event. The children get to play on the courts where some of Britain’s finest players have just competed and they really get a lot of enjoyment out of it.”
